The Witcher 3’s next generation release date is announced

On Wednesday, December 14th, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s next-gen update will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Series S, and PC. You’ll get the update for free if you own the base game on PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One (any edition, not the Complete Edition). The update includes upgraded graphics, all DLC packs, and additional content inspired by the series. Free access to The Witcher.

The update will feature ray-tracing graphics and faster loading times, so PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles should perform just as well as powerful PCs. During a Twitch broadcast next week, the publisher plans to share more information.

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions (as well as the Nintendo Switch) will receive an update that includes “many improvements,” along with TV series-inspired content. CD Projekt Red has not yet announced the release date for this update.

With the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S consoles released two years ago, next-gen updates and upgrades are becoming rare. Certainly this particular update struggled in development, as its release was first delayed indefinitely, then pushed to Q4 2022. It seems impossible for any developer to tackle the massive game map and the many memorable main and side missions of The Witcher 3, especially when they’re also trying to fix cyberpunk 2077’s issues.
